Fundraising For The Displaced Workers of Maui

What’s Happening in Maui

Last week, wildfires in West Maui destroyed homes, businesses, and land from the communities of Kapalua to Lahaina. Thousands have been displaced, having lost everything, and many are missing. Immediate assistance is needed to provide food, goods, housing, medical aid, and everything else that the population has lost. Long-term assistance is needed to sustain recovery and rebuilding efforts and to continue to support people who have lost their jobs and support systems as a result of the fire.

Our Dedication to Helping

Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro is dedicated to providing assistance for those who have been impacted by the wildfires in Maui.

“On Wednesday, August 16, Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro will launch fundraising efforts to support restaurant, bar, and hospitality workers displaced by the devastating wildfires that have impacted West Maui communities from Lahaina to Kapalua.

Starting on Wednesday, Boundary Bay is partnering with local distributor, Walton Beverage, to sell pints and cans of Coconut Hiwa Porter from Maui Brewing Co. All proceeds from sales will be donated directly to Kokua Restaurant & Hospitality Fund.

“Our hearts are with Maui. We cannot begin to fathom the pain their community feels,” says Janet Lightner, Owner and General Manager of Boundary Bay Brewery. “We hope fundraising efforts from the Mainland can begin to help provide the aid the people of Maui desperately need.”

Garrett Marrero, Founder/CEO of Maui Brewing Company and leader in the Craft Beer industry, has been leading stabilizing and recovery efforts.

“Ed Bennett [Owner of Boundary Bay] and I have a great level of respect for Garrett [Marrero] and his absolute dedication to the Maui community is unparalleled,” says Lightner.

Boundary Bay owners Janet Lightner and Ed Bennett were wed in Maui in 2018 and held their rehearsal dinner at Maui Brewing Company’s facility on Maui.

“In times of tragedy, we know all of Whatcom County will join us in supporting a community beyond our own," says Lightner.”

How We’re Fundraising

Through our partnership with Walton Beverages, we have acquired Coconut Hiwa Porter from Maui Brewing Co. to sell at the brewery. We are serving pints in-house ($7.50) and cans to-go ($5). We are also selling Leis ($5), and have the option for customers to add a donation to their bill. All proceeds from these sales will be donated to the Kokua Restaurant & Hospitality Fund.

Kokua Restaurant & Hospitality Fund

The Kokua Restaurant & Hospitality Fund is dedicated to providing support for workers who have been displaced as a result of the wildfires in Maui. The fund will provide immediate assistance for restaurant, bar, and hospitality workers.

Kokua Restaurant & Hospitality Fund was recommended to us by Maui Brewing Co. owner Garrett Marrero. It’s a cause that resonates deeply with our team as part of the restaurant industry. We believe that all hospitality workers are part of our Found Family, no matter the distance that separates us, and it is important we support our hospitality family in their time of need.
