Wave Breaker: How Peter Marcus’ Legacy Continues To Help Youth Paddlers

Peter Marcus is a well-known name in the Bellingham community. From starting the Bellingham Rough Water Race (now Peter Marcus Rough Water Race), Paddle4Food Relay, and the Paddler’s Film Festival, racing in and being Chair of the Kayak Leg of Ski to Sea, and working with Bellingham Youth Paddlesports, Peter was a pillar of the Bellingham and greater PNW paddling communities. He used his love of the sport to help others and create positive change within these communities.

A year after his passing, friends of Peter came to us looking for a way to create a beer to honor Peter, and continue his legacy of giving back to his community. This resulted in the brewing of Wave Breaker Pale, in which a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the local non-profit, Bellingham Youth Paddlesports.

About Bellingham Youth Paddlesports

Bellingham Youth Paddlesports was founded in 2013 to bring Olympic-style kayak and canoe training and competition to the youth in our community. The team includes young paddlers who are new to the sport, as well as those excelling at top levels and competing at national and international regattas. Their team also enjoys local paddling events such as Ski to Sea, Sound Rowers races, and the Paddle4Food Relay. They are committed to keeping costs low for families so that all youth who are interested can participate and learn a life-long sport.
